When a mural is more than a mural.

Airlite is a very special technological coating. Inspired by nature, it has an air purifying effect similar to that of a thunderstorm. It looks like paint but that’s where the similarity ends. No VOCs, it’s hydrophilic (self-cleaning), photocatalytic (generates low-energy negative ions that break down airborne pollutants, viruses and bacteria), highly reflective (keeps buildings cool) and has the lowest CO2 content of products in the architectural paint industry, 80% less than conventional paint products.

Airlite is used on a range of indoor and outdoor surfaces in hospitals, road tunnels, stores, fashion accessories, billboards, car wraps and glass surfaces. On grain and feed silos it stabilises internal thermal differentials and dew points, reducing the risk of condensation formation and related moisture and microbiology infections and moulds.

Airlite has been widely used for murals on building walls. Whether it’s urban revitalisation through the restoration of blank walls or the transformation of neglected areas into vibrant landmarks, Air Is Art seeks to connect people with their territory, raise public awareness of key social and environmental issues, and offer companies committed to socially responsible policies the opportunity to act concretely through the creation of eco-murals that actively purify the air from pollution.

Anthropoceano is an anti-smog mural in Milan, the home of Airlite. This has made the wall of the building a sort of natural purifier whose effectiveness is equal to the action of about 330 square meters covered by tall trees.

In 2019 UNEP identified Airlite as one of four innovative businesses using cutting-edge technologies to beat air pollution. Mexico City is renowned for its murals and now has giant murals in the city using Airlite. Hospitals, highways and schools in Mexico City use Airlite too.

Volkswagen won two highly prestigious awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2021 for its innovative ‘pollution-eating mural’ campaign, promoting the ID.3 and its focus on protecting the environment.  The murals were applied to the sides of buildings in major cities around the UK – Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and Manchester. Such is the effect of the Airlite paint, that every 100 square metres of paint used is the equivalent to planting 100 square metres of mature woodland, which could offset the annual emissions of 18 cars.

At the 2025 ATP tennis tournament, title partner Nitto once again participated in a number of activities to help bring positive change to Turin and its people through the continuation of the Nitto ATP Finals Torino Green Project. Nitto installed a mural at the Leone Sinigaglia Primary School to encourage people to engage directly with the theme of sustainability.

There are opportunities for the use of Airlite to reduce air pollution, keep building walls clean, keep buildings cooler and free of viruses and bacteria, everywhere. Art installations, murals, grain silos, hospitals, train stations, all public spaces.
